Ray Chu SS27
Sabrina and I were standing outside, waiting for our turn to walk through the Ray Chu SS27 presentation, when a very nice man approached us and asked if we’d been inside yet. “No, we are waiting,” we said. With a rather coy smile, he promptly handed Sabrina his gift bag from the presentation.
Then he turned to me and told me to hang tight. A few moments later, he returned with another gift bag, this one borrowed from his other male friend. The two of them looked at us with mischievous little smiles that suggested we might be getting pranked, but there was also a very clear, if unspoken, you’re welcome undertone.
Naturally, we were intrigued.
When we finally made our way inside, it became clear that this was not just any fashion show. In collaboration with cheeky self pleasure toy maker Nancy, Taiwanese designer Ray Chu presented his SS27 collection as a celebration of sex positivity, pleasure and the wonderfully unexpected ways fashion can make us feel.
It wasn't until we’d left the presentation that we discovered the full extent of our mysterious benefactors’ generosity. Inside those gift bags? Limited edition deluxe vibrators. And a fan.
Yes, really.
There’s something deliciously brilliant about a designer who understands that fashion can be whimsical, structured and provocative without taking itself too seriously. Ray Chu’s SS27 was a reminder that sensuality, humor and a healthy dose of mischief belong on the runway just as much as they belong in life. And those two men? Consider their contribution to London Fashion Week duly noted.
This is how Taiwanese designers roll, and I could not be prouder. Fashion, fun and a little self-love. What more could a girl ask for?
