Solid Homme SS27
As I arrived at the Solid Homme SS27 show during Paris Men’s Fashion Week, I noticed half-naked models hanging out outside in front of the venue. The heat was getting to everybody, and with several presentations to roll through, the models were taking as much relief from the temperatures as they possibly could. It was a very Parisian fashion week moment: a little chaotic, a little revealing, and entirely understandable.
This was my second Solid Homme show, and I was happy to see it presented in pretty much the same way. Wherever you choose to stand, you are offered a different viewpoint of the collection, making the experience feel less like a conventional runway and more like an evolving exhibition.
This season, we entered what could best be described as a botany museum. Glass cases containing various plants filled the show space, creating a curious juxtaposition between the controlled environment of the displays and the movement of the models. As the show progressed, each model stopped to examine the installations with as much attention as a 15-year-old on a school field trip. But that's forgiven; we weren't there to look at plants. We were all there for SS27.
What made the setting interesting was the way it encouraged a slower, more observational approach to the collection. Rather than simply watching silhouettes pass by, the audience was invited to consider the relationship between clothing, space and the natural world. The botanical displays provided a framework through which to view the garments, adding another layer to the presentation without demanding that the clothes compete with their surroundings.
Solid Homme has long occupied an interesting position in contemporary menswear, balancing architectural construction with a more understated approach to everyday dressing. The appeal lies in the details: the proportions, the interplay of volume and structure, and the way familiar wardrobe staples can be reconsidered through subtle shifts in silhouette.
The presentation format reinforced that sensibility. With no single vantage point offering the definitive view, the collection revealed itself differently depending on where you stood. It was a reminder that fashion is not always best understood in a single pass; sometimes, the most interesting details emerge when you take a step back and look again.
Ultimately, Solid Homme SS27 offered more than a straightforward runway presentation. The botanical setting introduced a contemplative atmosphere to the show, while the format encouraged the audience to engage with the collection on its own terms. In a fashion week calendar crowded with spectacles and statements, there is something refreshing about a presentation that allows room for observation.
And while the plants certainly provided an unexpected talking point, the clothes remained the reason we were all there.
