Shiatzy Chen SS27
There is something particularly beautiful about the way Shiatzy Chen brings heritage into the present without allowing it to feel bound by the past. For SS27, the Taiwanese fashion house returned to Paris Fashion Week with “In Accord” (序蘭), a collection inspired by the orchid, one of the Four Gentlemen in traditional East Asian culture.
Rather than simply translating the flower into a familiar floral motif, Chen explored its more subtle qualities; its resilience, delicate structure and natural elegance. The result was a thoughtful interplay of fluid silhouettes, sheer layering and sculptural proportions, where softness met a quiet sense of strength.
Orchid inspired details found their way into elongated lines, beautifully layered separates and expressive accessories. Sculptural collars and delicate embellishments added dimension, while confident flashes of colour brought an unexpected vibrancy to the collection. There was a lovely tension between restraint and ornamentation, allowing each look to feel considered without losing its sense of romance.
What makes Shiatzy Chen so appealing is its ability to navigate the space between East and West with an identity that feels entirely its own. Traditional references are never simply decorative; they become part of a contemporary design language that celebrates craftsmanship, cultural memory and individuality.
At a time when fashion is increasingly looking inward for meaning and inspiration, SS27 felt like a gentle reminder that heritage can be a source of creative possibility rather than nostalgia. An orchid does not need to announce its beauty. Sometimes, it is the quietest presence that leaves the most lasting impression.
