Marie Adam Leeneardt SS27
There’s something so delightfully French about getting dressed up for absolutely no reason, and Marie Adam-Leenaerdt is making a very convincing case for it. For SS27 at Paris Fashion Week, the Belgian designer took us to the supermarket, but naturally, this was no ordinary grocery run.
Picture a dimly lit space lined with refrigerators filled with fresh produce, setting the stage for a collection that blurred the lines between everyday dressing and full-blown fashion fantasy. Black lace, sculptural skirts, ballooning shorts, and oversized quilted jackets transformed familiar wardrobe staples into something altogether more unexpected. And just when you thought you had it figured out, a silhouette would reveal a hidden twist.
What I love most about Adam-Leenaerdt is her ability to make fashion feel clever and mischeviously eccentric. There’s a certain playfulness in the proportions, a little wink in the construction, and an underlying message that getting dressed should be fun. Why save the dramatic taffeta, the statement silhouette, or the beautifully unconventional outfit for an occasion? Who decided that buying groceries couldn't be one?
This season also felt like a confident evolution for the designer, building on her signature approach to proportion and deconstruction while embracing a lighter, more wearable sensibility. The introduction of menswear added another dimension to the collection, expanding her vision of everyday elegance.
And that finale? A model emerged wrapped in red fabric, almost like a walking red carpet. Because apparently, even the supermarket deserves a little drama.
In a fashion landscape that can sometimes take minimalism a little too seriously, Adam-Leenaerdt reminds us that personal style is about more than looking polished. It’s about having a point of view, a sense of humor, and the confidence to wear something simply because it makes you feel fabulous.
Consider this my official permission to overdress for your next grocery run. I know I will be... per usual of course.
