Maitrepierre SS27
There is something particularly compelling about a designer who can find magic in the everyday. Alphonse Maitrepierre takes us somewhere between pop art fantasy, playful nostalgia, and a more thoughtful approach to how we create and consume fashion. His SS27 collection, titled “UNTITLED”, is a reminder that imagination can be one of fashion’s most powerful resources.
Inspired by the French Narrative Figuration movement of the 1960s and early Pop Art, Maitrepierre transforms familiar wardrobe staples into expressive, almost surreal objects. A cardigan becomes a pixelated composition through its buttons, denim takes on new dimension through sculptural pleating and tiger prints bring a spirited graphic energy to the mix. There is humor here, but also a clear appreciation for the craft behind each transformation.
What makes this collection especially interesting is the way creativity and resourcefulness work together. Deadstock lace, recycled materials, and reclaimed fabrics are reimagined through unexpected shapes and techniques, including a striking dress made from laser cut fabric arranged like paint drippings. Rather than treating sustainability as a limitation, Maitrepierre approaches it as an invitation to experiment.
The accompanying fashion film extends this sense of fantasy, imagining an Alice in Wonderland inspired world unfolding inside a handbag. It is an apt metaphor for the collection itself, a familiar object becomes a portal into another reality where the ordinary is never quite what it seems.
I am always drawn to designers who challenge us to look at our wardrobes differently. Maitrepierre’s SS27 collection does just that, reminding us that dressing can be an act of curiosity, reinvention, and personal expression. Perhaps the most refreshing statement of all is that fashion does not always need something new, sometimes, it simply needs a new way of seeing.
