Etudes SS26
The Études Studio SS26 show at Paris Fashion Week, titled "Surroundings," was a deeply poetic exploration of the artist's relationship with their environment and wardrobe. Held at the Palais de Tokyo, the collection reflected on Land Art, using this concept to examine the marks left on landscapes and clothing alike. Each garment functioned as a record of use and place, blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor wear with a wardrobe that balances urban elegance and outdoor functionality. Key pieces included hooded bombers, working suits, detachable tool belts, lightweight overcoats, and flowing shirts, all crafted with fabrics like organic cotton poplin, mohair, utilitarian ripstop, sun-washed denim, and soft jersey. The surface treatments evoked natural wear, such as cracks, corrosion, and sun-fading, strengthening the collection's narrative of past use and environmental integration. The palette was inspired by the artist’s studio and natural mineral hues spanning charcoal, zinc-gray blues, and deep browns.
The show was staged as an immersive experience in Galerie Haute, where models traced spiral paths echoing Robert Smithson’s land art sculptures, accompanied by live percussion composed on reclaimed material instruments. This created a sensory link between movement, sound, and the collection’s themes. The garments featured utilitarian details like exposed zippers, technical pockets, and contrasting topstitching, emphasizing functional yet refined tailoring that responds dynamically to the wearer's motion.
In capturing this collection’s essence, Études Studio invites us to reconsider clothing not just as fashion but as a living dialogue with landscape, heritage, and artistic expression. Their ethical focus shines through thoughtful material choices and a call for conscious consumerism, echoing the philosophy of building an "ethically motivated closet" that fosters sustainability and meaningful style evolution.
This nuanced, multidisciplinary show resonates beautifully with the ethos I champion on The Fashion Edit, wearing fashion as an extension of identity and responsibility, where every piece tells a story of human connection to environment and creativity. Études Studio's SS26 is more than a collection, it's an invitation to slow down, observe, and invest in a wardrobe that reflects our whole selves and a future mindful of the planet.
